Fire bans restrict burning for the safety of residents and the community. Depending on weather and environmental conditions, the County may issue a Fire Advisory, Restriction or Ban. You can view fire bans throughout Alberta through theAlberta Fire Bans Website.
FIRE ADVISORY Fire Advisories are issued when the fire danger rating has increased. No restrictions are placed during an advisory.
FIRE RESTRICTIONS Fire Restrictions (aka Partial Fire Bans) restrict most fires. Outdoor fires that do not require a fire permit are permitted.
FIRE BAN Fire Bans (aka Total Fire Bans) prohibited all fires.
Fire & Fireworks Permits
FIRE PERMITS
County Fire Permits are required year-round for many reasons, such as:
regulating fires during special weather conditions,
specifying certain conditions to ensure control of the fire, and
notifying the fire department before burning so they know the whereabouts and type of fire they are dealing with.
Permits can be obtained by contacting Protective Services or filling out a Fire Permit Request Form online. Fire Permits are not required for recreational fires, burning barrel fires or residential incinerator fires.
You will need to provide:
your contact information
closest fire department
land location of the fire
type of material you will be burning
Fire Permits are not valid until signed by an approved County Fire Guardian. Once you receive a valid permit you MUST contact the toll-free number on the permit to inform East Central 911 of where and when you will be burning.
NOTE: If a Fire Restriction or Fire Ban has been declared, all previously issued permits are suspended. It is the landowner's responsibility to ensure there is not a current Fire Ban on prior to burning. If the Fire Ban is lifted prior to the expiration date on your permit, your permit becomes valid again.
*During a partial or total fire ban, the Request a Fire Permit link will not work.
FIREWORKS PERMITS
Please contact Protective Services at least 7 days before your display to allow sufficient processing and inspection time.

The County Fire Service is made up of eight stations. Four of these stations are owned and operated by the County while the remaining four are operating under agreements with our municipal neighbours.
