The facility LSD is NW-9-51-4-W4W. The plant provides drinking water to approximately 200 residents.

Groundwater sources are provided from three new wells. The wells provide flows of 15 US gallons per minute, 12 US gpm and 15 gpm. One well can maintain the needs of Islay residents however, a second well will be activated in peak consumption periods. The third well provides the ability to alternate.
The water undergoes pre-chlorinated as well as potassium permanganate dosage and proceeds to the contact tank for additional reaction time. It then flows through three filters containing greensand media and anthracite coal media. This media is effective for iron and manganese removal together with other dissolved metals, odour removal and improves taste. The filters are continuously recharged with potassium permanganate which renews the oxidation properties of the media.
Water storage consists of an underground cement reservoir of 454 m3 or 100,000 imperial gallons capacity.
The SCADA system was implemented early 2010. The system continuously monitors the Total Chlorine (disinfection mg/l), distribution pressure and pumps status, reservoir level, well pump status and building temperature. The system will send alerts and also allows access to current status and historical trends by remote desktop.
