Roadside Spraying

The County of Vermilion River operates an annual spraying program. The objective of the spraying program is to control brush and weeds along County roadsides. In recent years, the County has improved the standard for brush and weed control along County roadsides. The County is currently in a three year vegetation management program. Area 3 will be sprayed in 2009, Area 1 will be sprayed in 2010, and Area 2 will be sprayed in 2011 (See Map Below).

Spray Zones

No Spray Zones

The County recognizes the fact that certain landowners are not in favor of the application of herbicides fro brush and weed control along the municipally owned roadside ditches. In the past landowners have had the opportunity to enter into a No Spray Zone Agreement with the County. The signed agreement is between the County and the landowner. The County agrees not to apply herbicides along the roadsides stated in the agreement. In return the landowner agrees to control brush, noxious, and restricted weeds. The No Spray Zone policy was revised in the spring of 2001. The following are several changes that County residents should be aware of:

  • The County of Vermilion River  will enter into a No Spray Zone agreement with landowners for a period of three years.
  • This agreement makes the landowner responsible for brush and weed control.
  • County of Vermilion River will observe the signed No Spray Zones, and every effort will be made to honor the No Spray Zone agreement. In the even that County of Vermilion River spray crews apply herbicides in the No Spray Zone, under no circumstances will the County of Vermilion River be liable for any perceived damages.
  • The County will make available, on a one time basis, signs which designate the No Spray Zone. If the signs become damaged or stolen it is the responsibility of the landowner to purchase new signs from the County.
  • The landowner is responsible for placing two signs per linear ½ mile of roadside where their property begins and ends. Signs are to be placed on the fence line or edge of field facing the road.
  • All No Spray Zones will be inspected from year to year to ensure that landowners are meeting weed and brush control requirements.
  • In the event that requirements are not being met (as stated in the agreement) the agreement will be terminated.
