Fire Ban Lifted - June 16, 2011
This is to advise that the partial fire ban has been lifted as of 12:00 p.m. today June 16, 2011 within the boundaries of the County of Vermilion River. We wish to thank everyone for their patience.During a Total Fire Ban, there will be absolutely NO BURNING!
This includes: burning barrels, smudge, and recreational fires. All fire permits issued are cancelled until further notice.
During a Partial Fire Ban, only recreational and incinerator fires are allowed. All other fires are still banned. These recreational and incinerator fires must be contained, supervised and fully extinguished upon completion.
Burning without a permit, or during a fire ban, could result in a minimum penalty of $300.00, plus any related costs for extinguishing the fire.
When fires burn out of control in our County, extra demand is placed on staff and our volunteer fire fighters, creating large costs. The County will be aggressively pursuing cost recovery from individuals who light fires during a ban, or burn without a permit.
We would like to express how proud we are of our volunteer fire fighters that have fought fires on behalf of the County. It is a selfish act to light a fire during a ban, and the fire fighters are unselfish by sacrificing their lives and families to deal with these self-interested acts. For example, due to a fire being lit during a fire ban, on Mother’s Day when you were home with your families, our fire fighters had to leave their families at home to fight fire. The extra time, and long hours they put in for the safety of life and property definitely deserves huge recognition.
